Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently welcomed their little daughter in the world. Their son, Archie, became thus the proud older brother. The girl was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 am. She was born in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
Controversy around the name LIlibet
Meghan and Harry named the girl Lilibet, so the girl’s name was: Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The name was chosen as part of Queen Elizabeth II, who was affectionately called Lilibet by the family in her childhood, and Princess Diana.
Lili was named after her great-grandmother, her Majesty the Queen, whose pseudonym is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen as part of her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales
– we read in the official announcement of the couple. Immediately there was a lot of controversy around the girl’s name. Some media reports that Queen Elizabeth was not happy with this choice, others suggested that she was not asked for her opinion at all. However, according to The Sun, the couple’s lawyers reported that it was “false and defamatory” to suggest by the BBC that the couple had not asked for permission from the queen. A spokesman for Meghan and Harry said at the time:
The prince spoke to the family before the announcement, in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called
The couple bought the domain name “Lilibet Diana”
A spokesman for the couple told The Telegraph:
As is often the case with public figures, they buy several domains, corresponding to several names under consideration, in order to protect the name from being used once a decision is made and the name is made public.
The couple actually purchased the domain before asking for permission to name their daughter the queen, but had several variants if she had not approved their offer. They just protected themselves. The lilibetdiana.com URL was created on Friday 4th June via GoDaddy. A few days earlier, on May 31, the lilidiana.com domain name was registered, giving the couple an alternative to Lilibet should the Queen disagree with the name.
