Leicester City: A look back at Nampalis Mendy’s Premier League journey

Namplis Mendy spent the last six seasons of his career with the city of Leicester in England. He joined the English club in 2016 from OGC Nice. During the 2016–2017 season, the Senegalese midfielder experienced a difficult year between injuries and surgeries. He played 9 games with the first team and another with the club’s U23 section. The following season, he moved on loan to Nice (40 games, 1 goal, 2 assists).

After a stay in Ligue 1D in France, Nampalis Mendy returned to Leicester City and was called up regularly. So he would play a total of 32 games including 23 starts (2018–2019). In the following campaign, the 31-year-old found himself often on the bench and finished with only 8 appearances. Extended during the summer of 2020, it returned during the 2020–2021 financial year where it featured in 29 matches. It took until the 2022-2023 season to see Nampalais Mendy score his first goal for Leicester City in the Premier League.

Thus, the Senegalese international has played a total of 117 games and 1 goal in six seasons at Leicester City. At the end of his contract on June 30, 2023, the English club decided to part ways with Nampalis Mendy.
