Morawiecki on fuel prices. Reductions in “price components”

– There will be no maximum fuel price in Poland at the moment – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki declared on Tuesday, answering a question from Interia journalist Jakub Oworuszko. As he explained, in order to reduce the amount drivers have to spend at gas stations, the government plans to cut down on the “components” that make up the cost of fuel.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki flew to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, where he met with the local Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. The main topic of their talks was the international situation related to the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.

After the meeting, both heads of governments spoke at a press conference. During it, the Interia journalist Jakub Oworuszko raised the topic of high fuel prices faced by drivers in Poland. – Is the government, following the example of Hungary, considering introducing maximum fuel prices as part of the fight against inflation? – he asked Morawiecki.

Prime Minister Morawiecki: The government will focus on lowering the components of the fuel price

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland replied that together with the anti-inflationary package “several solutions” would be implemented to “relatively reduce fuel prices” at the stations. – At the moment we are not going to do this by imposing a maximum price. (Planned by the government – ed.) Moves will burden the budget; it may be over PLN 1 billion – he calculated.

Morawiecki reassured that the rulers would not use the catalog of “administrative restrictions”, but would focus on reductions in “fuel price components”.

On Friday, Interia Biznes announced that reductions were recorded on the wholesale fuel market for the first time in many weeks.

“Domestic refineries offer gasoline and diesel for sale at a significantly lower price than last week. For the first time in history, the average prices of basic fuels at the stations were sold at record high prices this week – above PLN 6 per liter, but wholesale sales fell may bear fruit, which is pleasant from the drivers’ point of view, although for now only a small discount at gas stations “- explained the journalists.
