NANNY | movie 2022 |

Nanny is the disturbing debut film by writer and director Nikyatu Jusu, starring Anna Diop (US), Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Sinqua Walls (American Soul), Morgan Spector (The Gilded Age), Rose Decker (Mare of Easttown) and Leslie Uggams (Deadpool).

It is the first horror film to win the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic at the Sundance Film Festival Dramatic, an award so far bestowed only once on a black female director. Nanny is a film that challenges the canons of genre by combining psychological horror with culturally relevant themes related to social identity, such as race, gender and socioeconomic status.

Set in New York, this fairytale about the experience of a Senegalese immigrant serving for a wealthy family is based on the real experiences of domestic workers. The story is linked to the personal childhood story of Nikyatu Jusu, whose mother supported the family with this occupation. Jusu has added elements of the spiritual kind close to her lineage.
