Natalie Portman talks about herself. Interview on beauty, wellness and TV

I always have two lipsticks with me. I like Dior Addict Lip Glow, which is very sheer. I use it when I pick up my kids from school. But I also keep Rouge Dior 999 in my purse, in case she needs a little more oomph. Finally, there is the Dior Crème Abricot nourishing nail cream. I treat my cuticles really badly, and always carrying this product with me is a way of reminding me that I have to take care of them.

4. The beauty lessons she learned on set

In my first film, Leon, the make-up artist used beetroot juice mixed with rose water as both blush and lipstick, because since I was just a 12-year-old girl at the time, she didn’t want to apply chemicals or anything like that to my face. This experience later gave me various ideas on how to create a natural make-up.

5. The books that have influenced her the most

There are many books that have influenced me. The one on the moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer, Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses, it’s fantastic and offers an extraordinary point of view on the natural world. I loved it too Intimaciesby Katie Kitamura, an incredible writer. It is a novel that shows how it is possible to lead a normal daily life while horrors and atrocities of all kinds occur in the world, and how the two realities manage to coexist. Rachel Cusk, then, is a true genius. I learned a lot from her novels and essays, especially about what it means to be an artist and a woman.

6. Well-being

Recently, I’ve started meditating at work, especially when I have short breaks, because it helps keep me focused, aware, and motivated. I’ve been a vegan for 10 years and a vegetarian before that, so in terms of nutrition, I’ve been “clean” for a long time. But I think one of the most important choices I made was to use my phone less and to turn it off whenever possible. This has had a huge impact.

7. Exercise

I like running, it’s the easiest way to exercise. I swim, too, when there’s a pool available. And then I practice various activities, such as pilates, gyrotonic and yoga, when I can find the time. Of course, running is very practical, because it can be done anywhere and at any time.

8. Choosing to major in psychology while her acting career was in full swing

I think it was lucky for me, especially in terms of social experience, to be able to get in touch with a group of people who are still among my closest friends today and who come from very different environments from those in which I usually move . It’s just a matter of following your inclinations and knowing how to appreciate the fact that you have other possibilities. If you have the opportunity to try something different, that interests you, it’s like you’re being offered a second life. You can have a completely new experience.

9. Her favorite summer scent

I love floral scents when it comes to incense or candles. I like orange blossom, tuberose and jasmine – they are my favorite fragrances.

10. When she feels her best with her hair

My hair is quite curly and frizzy, and I feel at my best when it’s long and natural, because it’s a part of who I am. It has to do with my origins, with my mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother…

11. Rituals that help you relax and unwind

I really like watching cooking competitions on television. My husband always tells me, “I can tell you’ve had a difficult day by the fact that when I get home, I find you looking Top chefs or the Great British Bake Off». It’s the moment I’m most relaxed and happy and my brain is off. I also love massages, pampering especially those with my kids but my lifeline has been the cooking shows. I believe that The Great British Bake Off has helped many of us through the pandemic.
