The new series, which reinterprets the story of the successful Spanish heist drama, has a high-profile cast that includes Squid Game Park actor Hae-soo and Lost actress Kim Yunjin.
Netflix try to restart after the not very encouraging results of the last period (the service, we recall, has lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022) by focusing on a bombshell title that seeks to appeal to both fans of the Spanish action series and lovers of k-dramaa genre now consecrated by the global success of Squid Game. The plot of The Paper House: Korea
The paper house: Koreadirected by Kim Hong-sun, tells the story of a genius mind and his talented criminals as they try to carry out an ambitious robbery on the Korean peninsula. When the group takes some hostages with them, the narrative is enriched with unimaginable twists and challenges. The international title Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, however, it is more significant because it alludes to the most interesting aspect of this series that differentiates it not a little from the original. The drama, in fact, is set in an imaginary Joint Economic Area, in a world in which the Korean peninsula faces a peaceful reunification after nearly 80 years of division. As the two Koreas prepare to print a new currency, a brilliant strategist known as the Professor (played by Yoo Ji-tae from Oldboy) brings together a diverse group of experienced thieves from both the north and south in an attempt to steal the new currency directly from the mint.
There are therefore major changes to the original story which has been adapted to Korean culture and language, starting with mask that the criminals will use during the heist: a traditional Korean mask, Hahoe, with characteristic curved eyebrows and elongated eyes (you can see it in the photo above). Consequently, the mask of Salvador Dalí that had accompanied the adventures of his Spanish colleagues goes into the drawer.

For The paper house: Korea Netflix has put together a high-profile cast. In addition to Yoo Ji-tae, the protagonists and their aliases are: Berlin (Park Hae-soo, Squid Game), Tokyo (Jun Jong-seo, Burning), Fly (Lee Won-jong), Denver (Kim Ji-hun), Nairobi (Jang Yoon-ju), Rio (Lee Hyun-woo), Helsinki (Kim Ji-hoon) and Oslo (Lee Kyu-ho). Kim Yunjinactress that you will surely remember in the role of Sun Kwon in Lostinstead, plays Seon Woojin, the detective in charge of the negotiations (the equivalent of Raquel Murillo).
