New Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio: the awaited restyling presented

How could we have anticipated this morning, the awaited restyling involving the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio has just been unveiled by the builder of the Biscione. A correct evolution is therefore guaranteed for the two Segment D models of the range which today also includes the first electrified C-SUV in the history of the brand, the Alfa Romeo Tonale.

At Alfa Romeo, the focus was therefore on making the presence on the road of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio even more seductive and contemporary by focusing on a long-awaited restyling and a source of long discussions, and hypotheses, in recent weeks. The desire to bring the family feeling closer with the new stylistic course launched by the new Tonale is there; now, the new Giulia and Stelvio will be made available starting in February of the new year.

Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Restyling

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio first of all introduce a front characterized by a new “look”

The evolution practiced on the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio starts with style, an element that nevertheless remains faithful to the very DNA of the brand by virtue of that “Noble Italian Sportsmanship since 1910” that becomes claim of a manufacturer in full evolution. In this way, both the Giulia and the Stelvio are equipped with a revised front end in a few (but good) details; the grids of the iconic Trilobo in fact introduce an unprecedented treatment with the desire to modernize an absolute symbol of the unique style of the Biscione.

The most important novelty, however, is represented by the headlights revised in the internal optics by virtue of a lighting defined as “3 + 3” by the manufacturer. For the first time on the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio there are the new Full LED Adaptive Matrix headlights that allow you to fine-tune a “necessary” family feeling with the new Tonaleonce again looking at the past of the brand.

The three elements allow to have, at the same time, the daytime running lights and the dynamic direction indicators in accordance with the best technologies available today; there is the Adaptive Front Lighting System, which provides continuous adjustment of the low beam headlights based on speed and specific driving conditions, and the Glare-Free High Beam Segmented Technology which, on the other hand, in poor lighting conditions, automatically detects the traffic to avoid glare from other cars. Finally, the Welcome and Goodbye device which is activated every time the driver closes or opens the car. All this translates into improved efficiency in terms of duration and energy savings, as well as greater safety thanks to less eye strain and better driving comfort. Some changes are also introduced to the layout of the LED rear light units in perfect harmony, again, between style and applied technology. Specifically, the new Stelvio has new rear light clusters with clear glass finish while those of the new Giulia adopt smoked glass and glossy black finish.

The virtual cockpit and the NFT certificate derive from the Tonale

As anticipated for some time, the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio just presented introduce one of the most awaited innovations inside the passenger compartment. There is in fact the virtual cockpit which makes the instrument panel completely digital, according to an element derived from the one already seen on board the Tonale which still maintains the iconic “telescope” design typical of the Alfa Romeo house.

The screen is represented by a 12.3-inch TFT unit, which gives access to all useful information to ensure the correct functioning of the car and to better manage the technologies related to autonomous driving. Three different layouts can be chosen:

  • Evolvedwhich represents the design vision of the Alfa Romeos of the future, enhancing the central area of the screen while maintaining the 2 side quadrants;
  • Relaxwith a specific focus on comfort, free from detailed vehicle information and characterized by the absence of 2 dials;
  • Heritagewhich is inspired by the brand’s iconic models of the 60s and 70s, with distinctive details such as the inverted numbers on the final end of the speedometer.

Not only the revised stylistic approach and the virtual cockpit derive from the new Alfa Romeo Tonale. Rather, the NFT (Non-Fungible-Token) technology is introduced on the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio on the basis of a real world exclusive that the manufacturer has launched for the first time on a car with Tonale and is now made available instead. across the entire current range of products.

The technology is based on the concept of “blockchain card”, that is, on a secret and entirely non-modifiable digital register on which the main information that characterizes the car is reported on the basis of an innovative approach undertaken by the brand. In this way the NFT is able to generate a certification in which the data relating to the life of the car are reported, introducing a real guarantee on the maintenance of the car by virtue of a greater attention paid to the residual value of the product. Through the NFT certificationevery new Alfa Romeo available on the second-hand market is “endowed” with greater credibility which helps in the process of buying a second-hand vehicle.

A new HMI (Human Machine Interface) is also introduced on the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio fluid and intuitive to have all the functions actually available at your fingertips. Furthermore, the system of infotainment it guarantees revised contents and functionalities while the Alfa Connect Services platform offers a wide range of useful services for safety; the on-board system is designed to offer Over The Air updates while the My Remote function includes various services, including the ability to remotely control some features of your car such as opening or closing the doors or flashing via smartphone or smartwatch of the lights.

Simplified range and “Competizione” special series

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio also adapt to the new range logic already introduced with Tonale. In fact, the aim is to simplify in order to guarantee a more immediate approach to the configuration by the user.

The newly renovated Giulia and Stelvio can be had by choosing between four different set-ups available, on the basis of a particularly defined characterization and therefore able to satisfy the needs of the most demanding customers of the brand. The range is accessed with the Super variant, then followed by the Sprint trim; at the top of the range, on the other hand, are the Ti trim levels, devoted to elegance, and the Veloce trim level that focuses on sportiness and performance. A set of iconic names that recall the history of Alfa Romeo itself.

Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Restyling

The available engines remain practically unchanged since the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio can be had with the 2.2-liter diesel and 160 horsepower with rear axle drive or always using the 2.2-liter diesel and 210 horsepower with all-wheel drive. Q4. Only one variant with supercharged petrol, that is the 2.0-liter unit and 280 horsepower with rear-wheel drive. Unchanged the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. As was already known, no electrified variants are introduced and nothing is known about the possible update of the Quadrifoglio range.

As we had anticipated, the debut of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio is accompanied by the introduction of the special series called Competizione. With this, the manufacturer of the Biscione develops a real concentration in terms of style and technology that resides on the basis of the Veloce set-up. You can have it with all the engines in the range as well as with Matt Gray Moon Light paint that contrasts with the red of the brake calipers. The stylistic characterization of the Competizione set-up introduces 21-inch alloy wheels on the Stelvio. The passenger compartment is instead characterized by the excellent Harman Kardon audio system with dashboard and seats covered in black leather with contrasting red stitching. The equipment is completed by the inevitable Competizione badge on the sides and headrests of the front seats, as well as by the privacy windows.

The Competizione variants already introduce the system as standard Alfa Active Suspension and clearly NFT technology.

The excellent dynamic qualities of the previous generations of Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio remain unchanged

No step backwards on the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio is recorded in terms of driving dynamics. Both remain at the top of the reference segment, maintaining driving skills in full Alfa Romeo spirit while looking at the new sportiness that looks to the 21st century in tune with the changes imposed by the new sustainable mobility.

The Biscione mentions the proverbial agility of its two new models, combined with the lightness developed by the use of refined and light materials such as aluminum and carbon used for the drive shaft. There is also the Q4 all-wheel drive specifically designed to manage the vehicle’s traction in a reactive and predictive way, in order to guarantee the highest level in terms of performance, efficiency and safety in all driving conditions. The technology is able to ensure the advantages deriving from the adoption of four-wheel drive and, at the same time, guarantees reduced fuel consumption, responsiveness and all the driving pleasure of a rear-wheel drive car. Also worth mentioning is the active torque distribution system that monitors grip conditions and the driver’s requests in real time to always guarantee the best performance; when the grip limit is approached or according to a specific request from the driver, Alfa Romeo’s Q4 system closes the clutches in the distribution system and transfers up to 50% of the engine torque to the front axle in less than 150ms.

The self-locking differential is a mechanical unit of the Q2 type which can also be combined with Q4 all-wheel drive on the Veloce variants of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. This is capable of emphasizing the agility qualities of both models, always aiming for perfect traction and a sporty look, with a view to increased cornering stability and in all conditions.

The Alfa Link Suspension guarantees a first-rate suspension architecture with double lower lever high wishbone and semi-virtual steering axle in front and patented four-and-a-half link multilink on the rear axle. Active suspension is available exclusively for the special Competizione series Alfa Active Suspension with electronically controlled damping, which adapt instantly to driving conditions and allow you to choose between a more performance-oriented or comfort-oriented behavior.

In the end the Integrated Brake System, by means of an electromechanical system, it allows to control stability by acting on the braking system and guaranteeing an instant response. The brake by wire system reduces the components used and present inside the engine compartment thanks to the adoption of a single element for the assembly consisting of pump, brake booster and ESP, guaranteeing a reduction of the cantilever masses to the advantage of the agility of the car. The extremely direct steering remains out of the question, combined with the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox with fixed blades in billet aluminum that guarantees unparalleled cornering handling for the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. Both offer a full set of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features for one level 2 autonomous driving.
