New Year’s Eve horror: Tennessee man kills wife with hammer, admits to entire crime

A 70-year-old man has been arrested in Nashville, Tennessee, for murdering his wife, who he beat with a hammer and then buried her in a hole he commissioned a worker to dig on a farm he owned over New Year’s Day.

According to the Nashville Police Department, Joseph Green admitted to killing his 76-year-old wife, Jackie Green, on January 1, 2024, at their home in the city’s residential Green Hills neighborhood.

The next day, the killer reportedly moved his wife’s body into a plastic bin and drove about 100 miles to another property the couple owned in DeKalb County, where he dumped the body on Dec. 16. In a hole dug for a contractor.

Likewise, Joseph Greene lied to his children, telling them their mother left because she was terminally ill, police said. The children did not believe their father’s story and contacted their mother’s medical provider, who confirmed that she did not suffer from any serious illness.

In light of this, the children alerted the authorities, who began searching for Jackie. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office discovered the woman’s remains on Friday in a hole about 6 feet wide, 3 feet long and 2 feet deep inside a plastic box, Fox 17 reported.

Police also found Jackie Greene’s car in DeKalb County and suspected her husband had towed it there to hide it.

Likewise, the aforementioned outlet noted that Joseph is accused of selling items belonging to his wife days after her murder and contacting a real estate agent to sell his property in DeKalb County, where he buried her body.
