Newcastle-Liverpool (1-2): The Reds have come a long way

After their impressive win (3-1) against Bournemouth on the second day, Liverpool face Newcastle this Sunday as part of the third day of the Premier League.

Deprived of Ibrahim Konate, Jurgen Klopp introduced Joel Matip in central defense for the first time this season. The Cameroonian formed a defensive pairing with Virgil Van Dijk.

For Newcastle, Eddie Howe relied on Alexander Isaacs up front. Liverpool, the favorites for this match, will be surprised by a well organized Newcastle team. Gordon took advantage of an error by Alexander Arnold to start the hostilities (1-0, 28′).

Just after scoring this goal, Liverpool will suffer a new blow. Mercy’s formation would lead to its captain Virgil van Dijk being sent off for a foul committed as the last defender. This ouster has prompted Jurgen Klopp to bring in an attacking pawn in Luis Diaz.

The Colombia international was replaced by Joe Gómez for the need to balance the team. The change allowed Liverpool to push back Newcastle’s offensive positions, but would have been better had the Reds come back to score. Against all odds, in came Darwin Nuñez, who offered his club the equalizer (1-1, 81′).

But as we inch closer to a draw, the Uruguayan international will strike again. Set up in class, Darwin Nuñez serves to score the second goal and give his team the win (1-2, 90+3).
