Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its new documentary, Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop. Many netizens regretted the absence of Nicki Minaj.

The new original documentary of the platform will be available on August 9th, but one detail has piqued the attention of Internet users. In the trailer, the presence of Saweetie, Queen Latifah, Da Brat or Chika have obviously been noticed. The big absentee, on the other hand, is the one who is the most talked about: Nicki Minaj.

Shawn Allen, who claims to have co-produced the documentary alongside Dream Hampton, Raeshem Nijhon, Troy Cartet, Carri Twigg, Nicole Galovski, MC Lyte, Justin Simien and Jennifer Ryan before selling it to Netflix, explained that Nicki Minaj was well planned for the script but that the rapper would have refused to grant the rights to her music and videos to be used in the feature film.
“I think Nicki Minaj refused because she is working on her own documentary, writes Shawn Allen on Twitter. But without a license for his images, it made no sense to include him”. According to him, Missy also declined the proposal. “I don’t understand why”, on the other hand, confides the producer.
