A clerk was quite excited to see Nicki Minaj, but she had mistaken the rapper for Trina.
There have been complaints among Hip Hop fans that over the years the artists seem to be looking more and more alike. Even with similarities in style or presentation, it would be difficult to confuse Nicki Minaj and Trina, but according to the “Seeing Green” rapper, that’s exactly what happened during a casual shopping trip. In a video, Nicki Minaj details what supposedly happened to her this week after meeting an enthusiastic fan.
“Hey, I just got back from this meeting, right? And on my way home, I asked the driver to drop me off at a store.”said Minaj. Once inside, she claimed she picked out a few items, and when it came time to pay for what she bought, things took a strange turn. “The man at the checkout started looking at me like, you know, he didn’t want to kind of blow my cover because there are other people waiting behind me in the store.”said the rapper.
She continued: “Then I lean in because it’s clear he’s trying to tell me something and I don’t want to get too loud. He was so serious, but he was crazy with excitement. So I said, ‘Of course, global icon superstar.’ I’m thinking in my head, ‘It’s okay.’ He leans over and in all seriousness he says, ‘I’ve been listening to you all day.’”
The cashier then said to Nicki: “This old school shit is my favorite”, which confused her as she is not considered part of that generation. The confusion became clear when the cashier said, “I hear that one of yours with Trick Daddy a lot.”, referring to Trina’s collaborations with the veteran Miami rapper. Nicki ended the video by recreating the expressionless expression she gave the cashier before letting out a resounding “sir”.
Nicki Minaj and Trina joined forces on a track titled “BAPS” in 2019. Things soured, however, when Trina’s A&R, Reginald Saunders, accused Nicki of not promoting the single. Nicki responded during an episode of Queen radio, claiming they were to blame. Trina later took full responsibility for the incident in an Instagram Live.
