Nicole Kidman : a life for cinema

Los Angeles, December 07, 2022 – For an actor, honors are essential, especially if the achievement recognition comes from the AFI Board of Trustees.

Nicole Kidman was notified of this special honor and will be presented at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest award for a career in motion pictures.

Kidman will receive it on June 10, 2023, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood during a special Gala in her honor. She will be the first Australian actress to receive the honour.

“Nicole Kidman has mesmerized audiences for decades with her artistic prowess, her iconic screen appeal,” said Kathleen Kennedy, Chair of the AFI Board Trustees. “She is a courageous force in her choices, as bold in any interpretation of hers. AFI is honored to honor her in the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award.”

The extraordinary talent of the actress has consolidated a considerable reputation in the world of international cinema, working with countless filmmakers including Jane Campion, Sofia Coppola, Baz Luhrmann, Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Lars von Trier and Stanley Kubrick.

Kidman is a 5-time Academy Award nominee, and managed to transform beyond recognition to play the character of W=Virginia Woolf in the film THE HOURS, winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2003. We remember her in DEAD CALM, EYE WIDE SHUT , MOULIN ROUGE, DOGVILLE, BEING THE RICARDOS. The list of accolades for film and television performances is long and full of successes. Kidman has also been instrumental in raising funds for the Stanford Women’s Cancer Program.
