Speculation about Elizabeth Olsen’s status in the Marvel Universe is circulating, but the actress has not reportedly been fired from the MCU.
Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, is currently dead in the MCU, but actress Elizabeth Olsen could very well still return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wanda Maximoff appears to die after being crushed by Mount Wundagore in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That, combined with a few other recent decisions by Disney/Marvel, led some to believe that the studios had cut ties with the acclaimed actress. However, these rumors are false.
At the moment, it does indeed appear that Elizabeth Olsen and the Scarlet Witch are taking a break from the MCU, which makes sense both narratively and in the sense that Olsen wants to have time to enjoy other roles . However, the absence of a season 2 of WandaVision or any pre-announced appearance of Scarlet Witch should not be a cause for concern. Wanda will almost certainly return to the MCU, most likely for a redemption arc aimed at helping her fellow heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty And Secret Wars.
Word ” trip ” appeared in a Variety interview, although the idea that she was on bad terms with Marvel is simply false. Expressing her pleasure at taking a break from the character, she explained: “If someone told me I was fired from Marvel movies, I would be proud of what we did. » Simply put, Olsen is happy with what she accomplished with Wanda Maximoff. She’s certainly not saying she’s done with the character, but rather that if her tenure ended now for whatever reason, she would still be proud of what she’s already brought to the franchise.
WandaVision was always intended to be a limited series and by naming the series box set “The Complete Series”, Marvel once again confirmed that there would be no season 2. However, this news, although recently made official for the first time, shouldn’t come as a surprise and certainly doesn’t indicate a sudden change in plans for Scarlet Witch.
Elizabeth Olsen has already confirmed her views on the series in 2021. When asked about a potential season 2 of WandaVision in an interview with Variety, Olsen replied: ” No. No. This is definitely a limited series. » She left the door slightly ajar as she added, “I don’t know. I mean, with Marvel, you can never say no…”
But if WandaVision does not have a season 2, it has a spin-off series, Agatha Darkhold Diaries, which will feature the witch played by Kathryn Hahn. Who knows, it could well be that Wanda appears in flashback and that the series prepares for Olsen’s next appearance in the MCU.
Rumors began circulating about Wanda’s future in the MCU, perhaps for the worse when Marvel updated the cover of its official timeline book, Marvel Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline. The cover features six images of characters from the MCU and originally included a photo of Scarlet Witch launching a blast of red magic. While the rest of the cover remained the same, images of the book’s cover on online stores were recently updated to show that Wanda has been replaced by Loki and Sylvie.
While this is disappointing for Wanda Maximoff fans, there’s probably a less disturbing reason for this change. Although the cover features two characters who are no longer alive in the MCU – Iron Man and Thanos – the rest of the image is made up of currently active characters. The move from Scarlet Witch to Loki and Sylvie is likely due to a desire to promote characters who will be more immediately relevant to the franchise. It’s also a smart marketing move, since Loki Season 2 will debut on October 6, a few weeks before the timeline book releases on October 24.
Wanda is far too important a character in the MCU to disappear like this. We are waiting to see how she will sell, if that is indeed the case.
