No goal but first in Serie A for key passes and expected assists, for Pioli De Ketelaere is already a “point of reference”

It was certainly the blow of the Rossoneri summer, which came after a few weeks of close negotiations with Club Brugge (told in an all too exasperated way): De Ketelaere is integrating with Milan, proving useful but not (yet) flashy. One meter and 92 in height, a slender body that can deceive, calm and elegance. Still no goals (but two goals canceled) but an assist and many plays in the last quarter of the pitch that were not in the strings of those who were already part of the Rossoneri squad; situations that do not immediately reach the eye like a dribble or a goal, but which are equally fundamental. De Ketelaere is first in Serie A for “key passes for 90 minutes” (just under 3) and for xA (expected assist, or the probability that a pass becomes an assist, ed) for 90 minutes (0.4): in a possible graph the Belgian would position himself alone in the upper right corner: to date he has been the player of the Italian league more effective, without equal, in these plays. To the naked eye and live the feeling that the Belgian gave his teammates interesting, dangerous and effective balls, making them seem “simple”, was always present: it is therefore important that he is confirmed so clearly also by data and numbers.

Stephen Pegswho strongly wanted it in the same way as Maldini And Massara, he is fully satisfied, but obviously in relation to the short time spent so far at Milanello, with what Charles is playing. He also reiterated this in the post-match of Milan-Napoli, declaring to Milan TV: “Charles did his best performance tonight since he’s been here. It was a point of reference. We must also expect some goals from a player with so much potential, but I’m sure those will come too. Today I am really very positive for the continuity with which he has played with the team and the quality he has given to the team. ” The Rossoneri coach rightly always refers to an “obligatory” adaptation period for a player who is so strong, but who comes from a totally different context: “And if we expect a guy who comes from a totally different context and championship to make us win the game alone right away, that’s a wrong reasoning, but I’m sure he’ll give us a great contribution.“.

Statements as always concrete and not superficial, stick and carrot: Pioli is always a very demanding coach, especially if the player in question proves to have talent and shots out of the ordinary. This is the case of De Ketelaere, who in the Carnago sports center works hard to enter the oiled and tested mechanisms of the Piolista Milan: it is not an immediate process when his teammates are by now in memory. It is also right to expect a few more goals, also given his interesting ability to enter and in the game without the ball; in time everything will come, and the Milan champion of Italy with the lowest average age of the three-point era is proof of this. When you bet on champion projects it is right and necessary to give them time to grow, make mistakes and adapt. In the meantime, De Ketelaere is demonstrating to Serie A, waiting to show off all the enormous potential of him, that when he receives the ball on the trocar then he practically always manages to put his teammates in a position to hurt.
