The leader of the Brothers of Italy: do not let me impose profiles that are not up to the task, no one thinks of solving the internal problems of their movement by proposing names
ROME – I put my face on this government, he says
Giorgia Meloni before the executive of his party, meeting for the first time since the elections. And, the logical corollary, she has no intention of failing.
This is why she speaks freely this time and allows the meaning and many passages of her speech to be disseminated to the press, after days of silence imposed on her own and herself. On the other hand, the time has come to give clear indications on how you intend to move in view of the assignment that will be conferred, and above all to send a message to the party allies: I am willing to listen to everyone and take into account their indications , but the principle cannot be derogated from. We need a strong, cohesive, authoritative government of competent, high-profile peopleessentially unassailable, because it is the one that its executive will have to face the most difficult phase in the history of the Republic.
So true, as he reiterates after his folks have whispered it for days, that there are no vetoes on anyone. Not even on Salvini. But it is necessary to put the right people in the right role for each one. That is, the premier in pectore not willing to accept diktat: Don’t make me impose names that aren’t up to the task. Here the clarification on the many controversies about a composition of the team that is biased towards technicians rather than politicians: the government will be political, because there is a very clear coalition that won the elections and because it will be guided by a party leader like her, with a program that was written and signed in the political sphere.
But if we need technicians in roles in which the coalition is discovered, we will resort to technical figures, and no one can claim the opposite.
In short, one thing is certain, the government will not be the clearinghouse for internal party problems: Nobody thinks of solving the internal problems of their movement by proposing names for the executive. We need to give the nation a high profile government.
And a very clear message Meloni also addresses to his troops, who will be involved in the adventure but who will not all be able to aspire to a place in the sun: it is essential to respect the weight and results of all the parties in the coalition, obviously including the Brothers of Italy. . But remember that we are here to please the Italians and not the parties.
There is also room for pride, which is natural for a party that is about to turn 10 years old and which has gone from the initial 1.98% to the current 26%, but there is no need to sit on our laurels. We are – insists Meloni – facing perhaps the most difficult phase in the history of the Italian Republic: we are in the middle of a conflict, the contours of which seem to stiffen even more; the pandemic theme remains unknown; we are experiencing an economic and energy crisis which seems destined to cause a domino effect on the prices of raw materials and food products; we are exposed on the energy supply front and in Europe a confrontation is underway without discounts. We are in contact with the outgoing government to facilitate an orderly transition. We have tight deadlines but we are ready. And we have the skills and capabilities.
Now for the moment to move from enunciation to facts. And Meloni can’t afford to miss a move.
