North Country – Josey’s Story (North Country) is a 2005 film directed by Niki Caro starring Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sean Bean, Michelle Monaghan and Jeremy Renner, based on a true story of the Jenson v. Eveleth Taconite Co., who in turn inspired Clara Bingham and Laura Leedy Gansler in writing the book Class action: the landmark case that changed sexual harassment law.

Josey Aimes, the young mother of two, Sam and Karen, returns to her parents in her hometown in northern Minnesota after running away from an abusive husband. The woman finds it very difficult to adapt to the new situation: her father is especially hostile to her, who does not forgive her the mistakes of her past; furthermore, her employment as her shampist does not allow her to adequately support her children. On the advice of her old friend Glory she begins to work in the mine in order to earn more. However, as a woman, she is subjected to constant threats and humiliation, especially from Bobby Sharp.

Exasperated, Josey decides to resign and bring the company to trial, but she finds herself struggling almost completely alone, without the support of her family and colleagues who have also suffered the same abuse. The only one to help her is attorney Bill White. During the lengthy process, the woman is forced to recall her tragic past of hers, and in particular the moment of hers when she, little more than a teenager, she was raped by her teacher. Bobby Sharp, who was there at the time of her rape and had done nothing to help her, denies any allegation by the woman’s lawyer, despite the latter pressing him with a hockey metaphor to represent her rape. . Eventually, Bobby gives in and bitterly confesses her fault.
