In turn, AMD, in addition to FSR, which has become an open solution, has recently introduced a second technique – Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), which is the company’s response to the presentation of NVIDIA Image Scaling. Meanwhile, Intel is working on its own solution – XeSS – which in the current phase looks to be the best competition for NVIDIA DLSS. In all of this, NVIDIA reappears, which today unexpectedly unveiled a technique called Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution. DLDSR for short.

NVIDIA Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution is an enhanced version of the original DSR, which has been spiced up with artificial intelligence calculations. As is well known, DSR is available from the GeForce Game Ready graphics driver and can be activated, for example, via the NVIDIA control panel. It will be similar with DLDSR, which can be run through the panel. As the name suggests, artificial intelligence is used to improve image quality, and thus Tensor cores. While NVIDIA defines DLDSR as a competition to the AMD RSR, its operation will be limited to GeForce RTX graphics cards. On the other hand, owners of Turing, Ampere and subsequent chips have another technique that they can use to improve image performance and quality.

NVIDIA DLDSR renders the game in higher and more detailed resolutions, and then, with the help of artificial intelligence algorithms, it reduces the result to the resolution of the user’s monitor. The presented method of reducing the resolution improves image quality by enhancing details, smoothing out the edges and reducing flicker. The producer also presented a comparison screen in Prey games, where we can see the difference between native Full HD resolution, classic DSR from 4K to Full HD and DLDSR on the 2.25x setting (from 2880×1620 to 1920×1080), which offers not only a higher frame rate than the usual DSR, but also presents a slightly sharper image. NVIDIA DLDSR will be introduced with the new Game Ready driver pack to be released tomorrow.
