Social media can absorb most of the people in the world. People love watching their favorite celebrities. Facebook researchers decided to check what impact the posted content has on individual audiences.
It turns out that fans of Billie Eilish, Charla D’Amelio and members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan are the most susceptible to negative emotions and opinions. They were matched with fans of accounts such as “The Ellen Show” or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The survey asked about the impact of Instagram on the well-being of recipients.
Teenagers are particularly susceptible to the influence of the media
The respondents indicated that they felt bad watching the content posted by some celebrities. They compare themselves to their successes or looks, often forgetting that the internet is an exaggerated place and often does not reflect reality. Photos shared on social media had a negative impact, especially on teenagers.

The respondents feel bad after viewing content posted on social media
Among other things, the questionnaire asked questions such as “how bad, if at all, do you feel about yourself because of other people’s Instagram posts?” or “How often do you feel discouraged by your own life after seeing others’ achievements on Instagram?” The study was to check reports on the negative impact of content posted on Facebook on users.
By controlling demographics, people feel more negative compared to having more exposure to fashion posts, high likes on other people’s posts, polished celebrity feed content, and selfies (especially filtered ones).
In addition to posts posted by celebrities, heavily reworked photos and materials with a lot of likes had a toxic effect.
