the artists entered in the fight to avoid a setback in the law that legalizes abortion in the United States. Earlier this month, first, a political website leaked a document that claims the Supreme Court intends to overturn this law. With a conservative majority among the voting judges, this is likely to happen – but not without a lot of action before that doesn’t happen.
Therefore, more than 150 artists signed a full page of the prestigious newspaper The New York Times this Friday (13) for the #BansOffOurBodies campaign.
Among the main names of the music they signed are Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Dove Cameron, Hailee Steinfeld, Halsey, Hayley Kiyoko, Lauren Jauregui, Megan Thee Stallion, Meghan Trainor, Melanie Martinez, Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, Rina Sawayama, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, Tate McRae, Tinasheamong others.
Fight for rights in law
The full page of the paper denounces the Supreme Court’s intentions to withdraw the law making abortion legal in order to draw attention to the issue.
“The Supreme Court is planning to overturn Roe v. Wade, taking away the constitutional right to abortion. Our power to plan our own future and control our own bodies depends on our ability to access sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion.”, says the ad, mainly in bold letters.
Roe v. wadand it was the first case in 1973 that supports the right to board until today. The force of the union intends to maintain this legality.
“We are Artists. breeders. narrators. We are the new generation coming into our power. Now we are being robbed of our power. We won’t back down and we won’t give up“, continues the ad.
The ad was published, not coincidentally, the day before the Bans Off Our Bodies Day on Saturday (May 14), where hundreds of thousands are expected to gather and protest in the streets across the country to defend the right to abortion.
