Pat McAfee reveals permission he asked The Rock for

On the June 24 SmackDown, Pat McAfee made a promo to challenge Happy Corbin to a match at SummerSlam, and during it paid tribute to The Rock, with the catchphrase that is associated with it.

On a recent episode of the Pat McAfee Show, the commentator said he asked “People’s Champion” for permission to use the catchphrase.

By the way, I wanted to say thank you to The Rock. People wonder, in the wrestling world, when you say catchphrase someone else’s, it’s kind of a thing. I don’t want to go into this too much, but I got permission from Dwayne Johnson to say so.

If you remember, on my last show against Austin Theory, when I was allowed to speak into the microphone, I was in the middle of doing it and I was interrupted. That was around the time I originally had the “ok” to say it.

That was in Miami, I think. I would have gone crazy. I’m sorry for not… it looks like I stole the thing from you, I didn’t give you credit, they started playing the song. It was a whole situation, I didn’t know they were playing the song at the time.

I’m the only person in the company’s history, perhaps in the modern era, where I’m told some things, but all things. “All you need to know is what you need to know”. Do I have a chance to speak tonight? “Yes, tonight you speak”.

So I sent an SMS, “This is what I’m thinking. May I use the phrase?” He replied and said: “Give me some context so we can really get this to work”. He gave me a whole “here we go”. I’m very grateful to The Rock. I thank you immensely.
