Plot and cast details revealed

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have announced the cast and plot details of the upcoming MonsterVerse film, Godzilla vs. Kong 2.

Warner Bros. has released interesting updates on the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong dated 2021. The sequel, currently without an official title, features the protagonist Dan Stevens (Legion, The Guest) and the return of Adam Wingard directing.

Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is rounding out its cast of Stevens, Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) who join returning cast members: Rebecca Hall ( The house at night), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong). Sadly, nothing is currently known about Alexander Skarsgård’s involvement, but considering how busy he is nowadays and with Stevens already in the male lead, it’s unlikely he’ll return; the same goes for Millie Bobby Brown.

The official plot synopsis for Godzilla vs. Kong 2 (via Business Wire) reads:

“This new film follows the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong in an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the all-powerful Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal unknown threat lurking in our world, which questions their very existence – and ours.” The new epic film will delve into the history of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and forever bonded them to humanity.

The official storyline belies previous reports that the project was going to be a remake of Son of Kong. It’s a shame because it would have been a great storyline, but at least we’ll see more titans. Adam Wingard has already talked about Destroyah and Hedorah as his favorite monsters of his.

Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will be written by Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean series), Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) and Simon Barrett (You’re Next). Filming Godzilla vs. Kong 2 are underway in Australia and the film will hit theaters on March 15, 2024.
