Prince Andrzej and the Epstein case. The queen’s son will be brought to trial

This means that there is a civil action against Prince Andrzej it will probably go to court – unless both parties reach an out-of-court settlement. Judge Lewis Kaplan had previously set a preliminary trial date between September and December this year.

Virginia Giuffre last August she filed a lawsuit against Prince Andrzej, claiming that in 2001, when she was 17, she had been sexually abused by him. Giuffre – then named Roberts – was one of a large group of girls who were lured by the late American billionaire and financier Jeffrey Epstein promises of work and then offered to his influential friends.

One of them was supposed to be Prince Andrew, who consistently denies this.

His lawyers tried to dismiss the lawsuit, citing a settlement Giuffre concluded with Epstein in 2009. According to its contents, Giuffre in exchange for 500 thousand. dollars has agreed to waive claims against Epstein and “any other person or entity who might be involved as a potential defendant.” The prince’s lawyers argued that as a “potential defendant” he was covered by the settlement.

But Judge Kaplan agreed with the arguments of Giuffre’s lawyers that the settlement concerned trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and that no one accuses Prince Andrzej of human trafficking.

Prince Andrew’s lawyers had previously also petitioned for the claim to be dismissed on the basis of inadequate jurisdiction, arguing that the New York court should not have heard it as Giuffre, the applicant, lives in Australia rather than the US, but this request was also rejected by Kaplan.
