PZPN. Adam Nawałka ends his holiday. Now it’s time for a big comeback?

After Paulo Sousa left, it seemed in scandalous circumstances that the Polish Football Association would want to bet on a Polish coach this time, but the first media reports did not exclude candidates from abroad. The candidacies of Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Pirlo and Andriy Shevchenko were immediately revealed. The former was even in Warsaw, where he met Cezary Kulesza.

The president of PZPN focused on talks with foreign coaches, calmly waiting for the end of Adam Nawałka’s leave. The former selector came back from vacation, as reported by Mateusz Skwierawski from Wirtualna Polska, and he will meet Cezary Kulesza in the near future. It will be crucial when it comes to hiring another manager.

Unofficial information indicated that Adam Nawałka did not want to lead any of the teams after his dismissal from Lech Poznań, which was directly caused by the ongoing pandemic. The former manager approached the restrictions seriously and did not take up a new job, but working with the national team is special for him. Although the coach did not say it officially, he implies between the lines that he would not have refused if Cezary Kulesza had entrusted him with the mission of leading the team in the World Cup play-offs.

The situation was temporarily complicated by quite unexpected information about the potential employment of Adam Nawałka in the Kosovo representation. An experienced coach denied the rumors, but there were voices saying that it was a game to increase one’s own value and win better conditions in a possible contract. The truth turned out to be surprising and quite bizarre, because Kosovar journalists mistook Adam Nawałka with Jerzy Brzęczek, who is actually to be the candidate of the Kosovar rulers.

The decision to hire a new manager may be made on January 19, when the board of the Polish Football Association will meet again. Adam Nawałka is a definite favorite not only among experts, but also footballers who have good memories of working with the coach, even despite the disappointing end of the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

– At this point, taking into account that we have 2-3 training sessions before the first game, first of all it has to be a person who knows the national team. I think a Pole would be the person who would reach us faster. Whenever there is a foreign coach, it takes some time to understand the language, not what he speaks, but body language, football language. This is my personal opinion, but the president will choose and we will know his decision in time – said Robert Lewandowski in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy.

The opinion of the captain of the Polish national team is certainly not without significance for Cezary Kulesza, and it is up to him to decide whether to hire a new manager. Robert Lewandowski did not mention any names, but made it clear that a candidate who knew the representation would be the best. Nawałka is a candidate who meets the requirements mentioned by the Bayern Munich striker.

Everything will be clarified in the next few days, when Adam Nawałka will meet Cezary Kulesza. It looks like this week could be decisive in terms of hiring a new manager.
