Radeon RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT – specification and release date of cards

AMD is preparing to release more graphics cards from the Radeon RX 6000 series – this time we are waiting for the premiere of weaker models that should be of interest to occasional players with a less affluent wallet. What can we expect?

A few days ago, we wrote about the Radeon RX 6400 and Radeon RX 6500 XT models, which are to be placed in the lower performance segment of gaming cards (below the recently released Radeon RX 6600 model). The VideoCardz service has found out about the accelerator specifications.

Radeon RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT – the weakest RDNA graphics cards 2

According to unofficial information, both graphics cards are to be based on the AMD Navi 24 graphics processor, i.e. the weakest chip from the RDNA2 generation. We can therefore count on support for such technologies as: Ray Tracing, FidelityFX Super Resolution or Smart Access Memory.

The differences will come down to the specification – the RX 6500 XT is to use a core with 1024 shading units and 16 Ray Accelerators, and the RX 6400 from the weaker version limited to 768 shading units and 12 Ray Accelerators (the weaker specification will also reduce power consumption – to operation of the card will not require an additional power supply). In both cases, the manufacturer will use 4 GB of GDDR6 64-bit memory.

When will the Radeon RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT cards be released?

The new models should be of interest to occasional players with a less affluent wallet. The cards are to be advertised as a proposition for playing in 1080p, but we should not expect sensational performance here – the specification will allow for comfortable playing, but in newer titles it will probably be necessary to lower the graphics settings.

However, those interested in purchasing must be patient. The premiere of the cards is reportedly scheduled for the first quarter of next year – first the more efficient Radeon RX 6500 XT is to appear on the market, and then the weaker Radeon RX 6400. Prices are not yet known, but looking at the realities, it is not known what the issue of hardware availability will look like. .
