According to Variety, John Boyega has signed for the lead role in Jeremy Saulnier’s new film that will be produced and produced for Netflix.
For Saulnier it is a return to the direction of a Netflix feature film just over a year after the last Hold the Dark, always made for the digital platform and starring Jeffrey Wright and Alexander Skarsgard. In recent years he had dedicated himself to directing some episodes of the third season of True Detective; the director should have directed the entire third season in question, but some disagreements on the set with Nic Pizzolatto, creator of the series, led to his departure, forcing Pizzolatto himself to take over the direction.
Rebel Ridge is described as an adrenaline-fueled thriller that will face the systemic American injustice through sequences full of spectacular action, suspense, and black humor. The cut of the film should be more similar to that of another by Saulnier, or Green Room, with the late Anton Yelchin and Patrick Stewart. However, no other details are known about the film, which should be streamed by 2020.
Boyega will resume the role of Finn for the last time in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the last film in the Star Wars saga dedicated to the Skywalker family; the film, co-written and directed by JJ Abrams, will arrive in Italian cinemas on December 18, 2020.
