Star Wars fans have long known that Mary Elizabeth Winstead was set to star in Star Wars: Ahsoka, but a new report from the Bespin Bulletin may have audiences more excited, as it claims Winstead will be playing Hera Syndulla of Star Wars Rebels. In some ways, Ahsoka appears to serve as a live-action sequel to that animated series, as it will feature Ahsoka’s search for Thrawn. Other confirmed castings see other rebel heroes like Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Ezra Bridger, played by Eman Esfandi. Star Wars: Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
Hera she was voiced in Rebels by Vanessa Marshall and has been referenced various times in other corners of the galaxy far, far away, with Ahsoka set to see the character come to life in live-action. In the Rebels series finale, Ezra Bridger made a fatal sacrifice to thwart Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka’s season 2 debut of The Mandalorian included a reference to Thrawn, with the implication that finding Thrawn might lead to finding Ezra.
Based on that series finale, it seems like the journey of Ahsoka will be intrinsically linked to Sabine Wren, but it is unknown how important a role Hera may play in the overall plot. Set after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
When could the series come out?
It is currently unknown when Ahsoka could make its premiere on Disney+, as Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 premieres in January and The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres in March. At that rate, Ahsoka likely won’t premiere until next summer.
