Just over a week remains until the deadline set by the San Juan Court of First Instance to complete requests or requirements related to the discovery of documentary evidence in a civil lawsuit filed by an artist. Ricky Martin against his nephew Dennis Sanchez Martinhe filed a motion calling on his attorney, Michael Corona, to resign.
According to the handwritten document, the defendants claimed there was an “incurable breakdown of trust” in the attorney-client relationship.
“Dear Judge, by this motion, I request the immediate resignation of Mr. Michael Corona because of the irreparable damage this has caused to our attorney-client relationship. On the other hand, I request an extension of January 16 to Period of documentary discovery so that it can be effectively used by my next legal representation,” today’s motion states.
In March 2023, Michael Corona acted as the legal representative of Dennis Sánchez Martin, when the court was analyzing whether the young man was qualified to represent himself.
During a status hearing in the form of a video conference on December 18, Judge Arnaldo Castro Callejo warned the singer and his nephew’s legal representatives that they would have to wait until January 16 Tuesday to finalize any requests related to discovery of documentary evidence at this stage. The process of the process does not continue to “break”.
The judge also said that the deadline for evidence collection is June 28 this year.
“I have no problem being flexible on discovery issues, but they are sending me interrogatories, supplementary interrogatories, admission requests. A series of jobs are being fragmented that, from an economic perspective, should be addressed on one issue. With The orders are the same. I responded to all of their order requests relatively quickly, but it seems to me that they have to base their determination of what is disappearing on the documentary evidence they have found since we cannot send out a new inquiry every time we receive a response ,” he said at the time: Castro Callejo.
At the hearing, Ricky Martin was represented by Dora Monserrate and Dennis Sanchez Martin was represented by Michael Corona.
Ricky Martin is suing his nephew for racketeering, malicious prosecution, abuse of power and damages. Demand is approximately $20 million.
