After several years of appearing in Marvel films, Robert Downey Jr. returns to niche productions. He will star in the new HBO series based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “The Sympathizer.”

Robert Downey Jr. Finally, he will make his debut as a series actor – Deadline reports that the Marvel star will appear on the series “The Sympathizer” based on the professor’s book Viet Thanh Nguyena, for which the author received the Pulitzer Prize. RDJ will play one of the main roles.
The novel is a spy thriller and at the same time a satire about a Franco-Vietnamese communist spy from the Vietnam War. The search is currently underway performers of the main role of a spy, as well as other cast members – Deadline reports that most of the actors will be of Vietnamese origin.
“The Sympathizer” is “an interesting story about identity and America, a captivating story of a spy, and a beautiful treatise on friendship and love.” It has been called a contemporary classic by critics and compared to works of art Kafka, Orwell or le Carre.
Robert Downey Jr. he took the role because not only is it a great story, but also a chance to show different faces. According to Deadline, RDJ is set to play the main antagonists in production – each of them is to represent a different version of the American establishment – among them there will be, among others a young congressman from Orange County, a CIA agent, and a Hollywood director.

Release date “The Sympathizer” with RDJ in the lead role is so far unknown.
