Robert Kubica has a plan for next year as far as F1 is concerned. What? Clever

Orlen announced on Wednesday morning that it would remain in Formula 1 for another season. Thus, the contract lasting from January 2020, according to which the Polish company is the title sponsor of the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen team, was extended. And as in previous years – Robert Kubica will remain as the test driver of the Italian team.

Does Robert Kubica still have any chances in Formula 1?

However, the racing plans of Robert Kubica do not end there. The Pole had previously announced that he would want to combine the role of a test driver in Formula 1 with the possibility of competing in another racing series. And it was confirmed on Wednesday. Although Kubica did not reveal where he intends to race, you can be almost sure of his future.

Robert KubicaOfficially! Robert Kubica and Orlen stay longer in F1!

Kubica revealed that he would definitely start in next year’s Le Mans 24 Hours race. To be sure, he must compete in the full season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). As he added himself, next year he is only interested in driving in the LMP2 class. The same where he was a few minutes after winning the legendary Le Mans, and where he won the ELMS title with Team WRT.

When can we expect more details?

Everything indicates that the details of Kubica’s future in the WEC will be known at the beginning of next year. As he himself emphasized on Wednesday, “it takes a little more time to arrange everything so that everyone is satisfied”. A Pole will not complain about the lack of activities if we add up the time devoted to Formula 1, WEC and advertising benefits to Orlen.

Kubica’s role in Formula 1 will not change. As he admitted, “it will be very similar to the current one”, so the Pole would primarily help in the development of a simulator that was created recently. In addition, he must be ready to replace one of the racing drivers at any time if one of them is unable to start the race. Like this year, when he replaced Kimi Raikkonen at the Dutch and Italian GPs when the Finn tested positive for coronavirus.

Robert Kubica will drive an F1 car!

And the most important information that has already been officially confirmed: Kubica will take part in four training sessions behind the wheel of the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen car. He will also get the opportunity to drive the car during pre-season tests.

Kubica also revealed on Wednesday that his plans go much further than next season. It takes into account the possibility of starting in the Hypercar class, which is currently the fastest in the WEC. The Pole may think about cooperation with Ferrari, which will join Hypercar in 2023. If the car prepared by the Italian team was able to fight Toyota, Kubica could go down in history as another Formula 1 winner of the race. This task will not be easy, however, the best proof of which is Alpine, which this year is not able to establish a real fight with the Japanese company.
