The story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as you’ve never seen it: from the point of view of “Rosaline“, which gives the title to the upcoming new film on Disney+ on October 14.
William Shakespeare’s tragedy has inspired several film adaptations, but this time the inspiration comes from another book, namely “When you were mine” (in Italy “Io, Romeo & Giulietta” for De Agostini, 2015), a novel young adult by Rebecca Serle which takes up precisely the story of the two lovers by telling the version of Rosaline, Juliet’s cousin and Romeo’s ex-girlfriend.
It is, of course, a light retelling of the Shakespearean drama “Romeo and Juliet”, directed by Karen Maine on the screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Interpreter of the protagonist Rosaline is Kaitlyn Dever already well-known actress, especially on television in the series “Unbelievable” and “Dopesick – Declaration of dependence”: both earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
The plot of “Rosaline”
Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Kaitlyn Dever) is Romeo’s (Kyle Allen) ex. Heartbroken, after he meets Juliet (Isabela Merced) and begins courting her, she hatches a plan to sabotage the famous romance and win her man back.
