According to Aeroflot authorities, the plane carrying 142 passengers had to descend from its height after air traffic control reported that another plane had entered its air corridor.
In turn, Russia said that the smaller plane, flying from the Black Sea resort of Sochi to Skopje, also had to change course due to the presence of a NATO plane nearby.
It was not stated which NATO member the reconnaissance aircraft belonged to. The Russian Ministry of Defense has only announced that it has ordered the escorting of two US military reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea.
Russia said that the increase in the number of NATO aircraft flights in the region poses a threat to civilian aircraft and that Moscow plans to file a diplomatic complaint about the matter.
