Time for some more investigation! Only Murders in the Building stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short have talked about the upcoming second season for emmy magazine and Us Weekly has an exclusive first look.
The trio dressed up for their first interview on the second season of the Hulu series, which premieres on June 28. Gomez, 29, wore a red V-neck dress while his co-stars, Martin, 76, and Short, 72, wore matching tuxedos and striped socks.
Martin joked that there will indeed be a new case to solve in the next few episodes. “The title is Murders Only in the Building, so how many murders can you have? And it turns out, one a year, ”joked the former Saturday Night Live alum.
Gomez admitted he has reservations about doing a follow-up to the first season. Short rushed in with a joke, saying, “I guess you don’t remember Grease 2.”
The actors figured out why each of them would make a good detective in real life. “I think I’d be a good detective because I’m very nosy. I can track things down, like I need to find someone. I was really good at that, ”the former Wizards of Waverly Place alum said.
“I like research, fact-checking and investigation,” Martin said, while Short interjected, “And I can make a lot of different rumors that can be good if you’re a detective.”
Martin and Short have known each other since they met on the set of Three Amigos! in the 1980s, but this was their first time working with Gomez. “Selena was an unknown,” said the Pink Panther actor. “And she comes from pop culture, we don’t know if she’s a diva, we don’t know if she’s crazy. We don’t know anything about her ”.
The pop star intervened: “I didn’t know Steve was alive!” She then shared that her 70-year-old co-stars made her feel right at home. “I have to say I’m really lucky… it was wonderful. I feel like I’m part of the group, I don’t feel like an outcast because I’m younger, ”she said, adding that the two comedians are“ also very protective of me ”.
“And we’re also keeping up with the latest music, like Snoop Dogg,” joked Martin, electing one eye of Gomez to heaven. The “Bad Liar” singer replied, “It’s not happening right now.”
Despite the age difference, Short revealed that he and his co-stars have some things in common. “We are kind, we are professional, we are thoughtful,” he said. The Innerspace actor then joked that they too “like to yell at our assistants … that’s a common trait.”
The Santa 3 actor also revealed why Martin doesn’t want Gomez to be a guest on one of their Steve Martin and Martin Short live comedy shows. “Steve’s fear of Selena… is that when she’s gone, the audience will be gone too,” he said.
“I don’t think I’d make appearances just because I don’t think I’m that funny,” Gomez explained. Martin was quick to point out that he was learning, saying, “You have got into our habit of constantly insulting each other.”
