Sensational, Ecuador out of the World Cup? Appeal filed in the Castillo case

ROME – The situation of the South American national teams involved in the next ones could change World Cup in Qatar: L’Ecuador would risk in fact, the expulsion from the tournament just 10 days after the debut. It all stems from a complaint made by the federation of Chilefollowing an investigation in which a Colombian birth certificate of Castillowith the same parents, but with a date of birth in 1995 and not in 1998, as reported in the documents of the football federation ofEcuador. “Castillo was born in Colombia, in the city of Tumaco, on July 25, 1995 and not November 10, 1998 in the Ecuadorian city of Playas”, the Chilean Football Federation had written in its statement. A clear accusatory thesis: Castillo does not have the right to play with the jersey ofEcuadorwhich therefore should have lost games at the table in all the matches in which the defender has taken the field.

Ecuador-Castillo: decision by 10 November

Last month the Court of Arbitration for Sport registered i appeals of the Chilean and Peruvian federations against a sentence of the Fifa according to which Castillo was actually eligible to play the infamous eight qualifying matches for which he was selected by theEcuador. However, the CAS did not provide a timetable for the appointment of judges and the organization of acourt hearingalthough Chile And Peru – who have appealed – have asked for a decision no later than November 10. This legal argument was rejected by the FIFA disciplinary committee in June and confirmed by the appellate judges of the same association two weeks ago. L’Ecuador finished fourth in the South American qualifying round in March and obtained direct qualification for the World Cup and was drawn in the Group A with Qatar, Holland and Senegal. If the qualifying matches were canceled, the revised point totals would put Chile in fourth place from seventh, thus qualified for the World Cup, and the Peru in fifth place. A thorny situation that could close, in one way or another, just 10 days after the start of the World.
