Showcase of the Young Danza d’Autore 22: Jacopo Jenna wins CollaborAction XL

Hosted within the Ammutinamenti Festival in Ravenna, the three days of dance and exchanges of the Anticorpi XL network

We are back, like every year, to tell you about the Showcase of the Young Danza d’Autoreone of the most representative events of Mutiny Festival, which took place from 15 to 17 September in Ravenna. Very important and full of new stimuli, the Showcase welcomes young authors from all over Italy, selected through a national call by the 38 partners of the Anticorpi XL network, an Italian network dedicated to the promotion of young author’s dance, located in 15 regions of the our country.

Twenty-four young artists selected for this edition, who performed in 14 performances and who were also involved, from May to September, in an accompanying path developed through a cycle of online meetings during which professionals in the sector shared with them tools and notions useful for orienting and disentangling the administrative, organizational-managerial and technical aspects of production and circulation: a time and space dedicated to them to better face the future authorial path.

To accompany these days of show also the “Crossings” edited by Maurizio Lupinelli and Elisa Polwhich saw as protagonists on stage some of the authors and authors of the Vetrina and of Nuove Traiettorie (the training action of the Anticorpi XL Network characterized by lessons, meetings, comparisons, exchange practices and viewing of shows that this year brings nine young authors and authors from all over Italy), alongside the participants of the permanent workshop.
There was also the significant presentation of the volume “Antibodies for dance – Four years of actions for the promotion of the young author’s dance | 2018-2021 “, which contains the data and the analysis of the monitoring submitted to the artists who, through the projects of the network, have gone through the last four years of activity, highlighting the values ​​and needs of the young author’s dance .

To complete the Mutiny program, the “Training Days”, a training course aimed at boys and girls between 17 and 23 years old who wish to live an experience in the field of live entertainment and discover the behind the scenes of a festival from long-time experience.

And here we are at the results of the eight performances that most involved and interested us.
From the first day our gaze was particularly attracted by three very different creations, all of good interpretative quality and full of beautiful suggestions.
The Scespirian character of Ophelia, for example, is investigated by Giada Vailatibeing accompanied by the obsessive and suitable music of Francesco Saccoin “This is my body… another Ophelia”.
The young woman, an artist through her corporeality, which on stage refers to the sacrificed and sacrificial one of the daughter of Polonius, throws herself headlong into a movement resolved in simple steps, repeated with increasing dynamics which, at the same time, turn out to be constriction and liberation. , desire for life and death.
Only at the end does the water seem to have its complete victory and Ophelia’s body calms down, letting itself go into the sleep of death. We will be very curious to see the continuation of the performance.

The subsequent “Ordinary people” by Marco di Nardo And Juan Tiradowhere the two bodies of the performers intertwine and disentangle in an opposite game of actions that we follow without ever taking our eyes off through a level dance, albeit with some excessive complacency that dilutes its intensity.
On stage we see two bodies that continually attract and oppose each other, recreating all the emotional reverberations that this condition suggests.

Absolutely engaging and full of possibilities to recreate a theater of absolute significance, despite the objective lack of actual correspondences, the third project of the first day, “Oscilla” by Simone Arganiniwho on stage moves immersing himself in the sounds of the sensors that mark his body, activated in real time.
Arganini’s resonant body thus dialogues both with the music live from Daniele Fabris with both lights and vjing’s Amerigo Piana. The meeting of the three artists thus succeeds in forming a scenic space of great creative suggestion, where the three languages ​​meet and collide, creating truly invigorating effects for the viewer’s “feeling”. The use – in itself anaffective – of technology thus succeeds in perfectly becoming the metaphor of the relationship that each of us has with himself, with others and with the world around us.

On the second day of the showcase we particularly liked “All you need is” and “Tracce looking for a place to die”.
“All you need is” by Emanuele Rosa And Maria Focaracciostaged with Armando Rossi, joyfully explores all the possibilities of human relationships. On the notes of a famous composition by John Surman we witness a three-way dance, made up of continuous joints, balances and physical interconnection, in which all possible relationships between two male beings and one female can be declined.
The performance represents the second chapter of the research undertaken by the two authors with “How to _ just another Boléro”, which we had already greatly appreciated in a previous edition of the Showcase on the theme of sharing affections and human relationships.

The second trio, “Tracce looking for a place to die” by and with Sara Capanna, Barbara Carulli And Michele Scappaperhaps the most fervent project of emotional reverberations we have witnessed in Ravenna, is an intense tribute to the stage as a place of enchantment, conceived on the original music of Joaquín Nahuel Cornejo.
The stage becomes in fact the magical moment of the breath, in which the dance intrudes in a choreographic game of light and dark, and where body and shadow chase each other continuously. The three performers play with it tirelessly, entering and exiting the spaces thus created, by means of an engaging dance full of profitable references for the viewer.

Here we are then in the beautiful space of the Sabe Foundation for “Fitting” of Nicholas Baffonistaged with Camilla Perugini.
“Fitting”, even through the highly abused metaphor of shoes, tells a story of relationships that slowly become present on the scene and that dance offers in a suitable way in its extreme simplicity.

A little bitter of fervent interest instead the last evening at the Rasi Theater, illuminated in some way only by “Wannabe”, the first collaboration between the choreographer Fabritia D’Intino and the musician Federico Settri.
Through the music on stage the imagery of television, discos and video clips is projected. Fabritia D’Intino plunges into it with obsessive movements, always on the back and with the back, wearing a costume with animal-like features.
The female body thus deliberately undresses, “in a physical journey of recognition and liberation from some of the codes that belong to us and identify it”.

In the open air on the dock, Camilla Neri, Martina Piazzi, Francesca Pizzagalli And Bianca Berger instead they project us into a choreographic and musical project inspired by the curious phenomenon of Para Para and Eurobeat, which spread in the 90s in Tokyo clubs, involving us in a frenetic and very vital way. The Para Para is in fact a very frenetic dance style, characterized by a very colorful aesthetic and hyper-dynamic gestures.
The method developed by the collective is manifested in the construction of a database of choreographies obtained from video-tutorials, studied by the dancers individually following a common lineup. The project takes shape by adapting the choreographic sequences of the time to the original music written by Alberto Ricca / Bienoise. Witness of the event, certainly not silent, is a tuning car that plays Eurobeat at very high volume.

To conclude the Showcase is Natalia Casoratiartistic director of Mosaic Dance and the festival Interplay of Turin, which announced the winner of CollaborAction XL, a project that selects and supports the choreographic idea of ​​an emerging choreographer who stands out on the national scene in recent years for the artistic quality of his authorial career. This year’s winner turned out Jacopo Jenna.
In addition to an important financial support to invest in the creation, CollaborAction offers various tools to support the development of the project, from creative residences that provide not only the provision of rehearsal spaces, but also moments of feedback with operators, an accompaniment during the various phases of research and preparation, up to the realization of a national tour of the show at reviews, festivals and seasons of the partners participating in the action.
