In 2019, the team of Norwegian jumpers, just before the inauguration of the summer season, decided to train at the facility in Wisła. Among the players who appeared on the starting bar there was, among others Anders Fannemel, former world record holder in flight length (251.5 meters), medalist of the world championships and four-time winner of the World Cup competitions.

It was supposed to be an ordinary practice rehearsal. However, Fannemel glided 140 meters and if he stopped, he would unofficially improve the hill record belonging to Stefan Kraft. However, this did not happen. After landing, the knee of the Norwegian jumper, who fell to the landing hill, could not stand it. He was no longer able to leave the facility on his own and was hospitalized. The diagnosis was like a sentence. Fannemel ruptured the cruciate ligament and damaged the meniscus. He could forget about the competitions in the next season of the World Cup, and his further career was put into question.

His recovery path was very winding. Fannemel had three knee surgeries. He couldn’t compete in the World Cup, so he didn’t get paid. The Norwegian association does not pay the players a salary. Fannemel had to cope somehow, so he became a teacher at a Norwegian sports school, but all the time he was thinking about going back to the hill.

Finally, after many months, he started training and in February this year he made his first jump. So his return to the World Cup began in Lillehammer. Last season he only competed in lower rank competitions, but now he is already jumping in the World Cup.

He has only scored six points in four competitions during the season – he was 25th in Ruce. Now the Norwegian returns to the place that interrupted his career. The big question is whether he can leave the past behind?
