SOMETHING TO SPEAK ABOUT
The 5 at 21.10. With Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Gena Rowlands. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom. 1995 USA production. Duration: 1 hour and 41 minutes
THE PLOT Idyllic life in an American provincial town. Until a wife (Julia Roberts) discovers that her husband is getting along with another. Open up heaven. The lady, shocked, suddenly and brutally, in so many certainties about her, drives out her husband and forbids him to see her children. The little scandal has a domino effect. Many local couples are in crisis. Even Julia’s parents (Robert Duvall and Gena Rowlands) who were a beacon for her daughter, the ideal couple for 40 years, find that they have many unpleasant things to say to each other.
WHY SEE IT because it is a delightful American comedy, perhaps the best direction by Lasse Hallstrom who has never been so witty. But here the actors probably took his hand. They all run at full speed and the best is perhaps the least known, Kyra Sedgwick who carves out a little space of her as sister-in-law (by no means indulgent) of the faithless.
