Renewed earlier this year for a second season, well before the May 5 premiere on Paramount +, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the eleventh small-screen product in the hit franchise.
Star Trek: Discovery spinoff, follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the spaceship USS Enterprise as they explore new worlds across the galaxy during the decade leading up to Star Trek.
The second season will continue to explore the relationship between Captain Pike and helmsman Ortegas (Melissa Navia). In a recent interview, the actress told the dynamic between the two characters and how it will be expanded in the next chapter:
“I think we will see a more intrigued situation between the two. What we see now is essentially a captain who trusts his helmsman and vice versa. Sometimes people say, ‘The jokes are too informal to be realistic’. I reply that when you talk to military and talk to people who are constantly in life or death situations in their work, this is absolutely the reality.“
The Colombian actress continued:
“Also, one thing fans have pointed out is that Pike often refers to Ortegas by her birth name, Erica. In fact there is an underlying friendship, but it does not detract from the fact that they are professionals and they trust each other in life and death situations. In the second season their relationship will be deepened“.
Furthermore Navia pointed out that the second season will be even better than the first. Next season will also feature the introduction of James Tiberius Kirk, played by Paul Wesley.
The Season 1 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres July 7 on Paramount +, while the next batch of episodes is slated for release. first half of 2023.
