The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird?

The name Coriolanus Snow will probably ring a bell, since we know him as the ruthless president of the original film series who rules Panem with an iron fist. In this new prequel, we get to know the president in a very different way, when he is just a young man of 18 and not the tyrant played by Donald Sutherland. The film takes place as the tenth annual Hunger Games are about to begin. Young Snow, who will be played on screen by the British actor Tom Blythis tasked with mentoring Lucy Gray Baird, a District 12 scout.

It is the rising star Rachel Zegler (‘Snow White’, ‘West Side Story’) who was chosen to slip into the shoes of Lucy Gray Baird, the representative of District 12 in the Hunger Games, thus taking up the torch of Jennifer Lawrence. Lucy is a member of a traveling troupe called the Coveys, who have taken refuge in the District 12 after the collapse of the rebellion. A singer-songwriter, Lucy wrote ‘The Hanging Tree’ and ‘Deep in the Meadow’, two famous songs that would later be performed by Katniss Everdeen. In the prequel, Lucy and Snow form a close relationship that leads Snow to consider leaving the Capitol to join her.

For her part, Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis will lend her features to Dr. Volumnia Gaul, one of the most formidable characters in the saga. Head of games as cruel as it is creative and mastermind of the Capitol’s experimental weapons division, she is a brilliant and eccentric strategist who plays a determining role in the training of young people Coriolanus Snow and the man he will become.

Actress and model Hunter Schafer, star of the series ‘Euphoria’, has her first major film role playing the mysterious character of Tigris Snow. She’s there cousin and confidante of Coriolanus, who advises him on all subjects. She then became a stylist for the Games and, many years later, a ally of Katniss including helping her and the rest of Squad 451 hide as they prepare to march on the Capitol.

All these beautiful people will be joined by Josh Andrés Rivera (‘West Side Story’), who plays the role of Sejanus Plinth, a close friend and mentor of Snow, and a certain Peter Dinklage. ‘Game of Thrones’ star will camp Casca Highbottomthe dean of the Academy and creator of the Hunger Games.
