The Cronenberg marathon is underway in the cities of Rome, Milan and Turin

The film marathon dedicated to the cult director David Cronenberg comes from 18 to 23 August at the Quattro Fontane cinema Romeat the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema a Milan and to the Ambrosio of Turin. For the occasion, the films will be screened in their original subtitled version.

The film marathon includes “Rabid – Thirst for blood”, cult film from 1976 in which a young girl transforms into an insatiable vampire after undergoing a skin graft; the restored version of “Crashes”, which declines the theme of mutation starting from a novel by JG Ballard in which the survivors of a car accident develop a sadomasochistic impulse; the body horror”Brood – The evil brood”, set in a clinic of horrors; “Scanners”, starring individuals with telepathic powers with a lethal outcome. And then again”Videodrome”, an undisputed cult in which a mass media hallucination becomes a metaphor for the television civilization of the 80s; “The fly”, with actor Jeff Goldblum grappling with a monstrous sci-fi melodrama; “Naked lunch”, refined paranoid delirium that pays homage to the homonymous novel by William S. Burroughs.

Two films with Viggo Mortensen (also starring in “Crimes of the Future” together with actresses Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart): “A History of Violence”, a noir-tinged thriller that reflects on the theme of identity, and “A Dangerous Method” which traces the turbulent relationship between psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (Michael Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud (Mortensen) and Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley).

The marathon ends on Tuesday 23 August with “Assassin’s Promise”, a tense and powerful noir set in the Russian underworld always starring Viggo Mortensen together with Naomi Watts and Vincent Cassel, and “Maps to the Stars”, a harsh critique of the world of entertainment and the film industry, masterfully interpreted by Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Julianne Moore, who for this role won the Palma as best actress at the 67th Cannes Film Festival.

The exhibition “La Nuova Carne”, dedicated to the cinema of David Cronenberg, will also be set up at the Quattro Fontane cinema in Rome and in the exhibition space on the ground floor of Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan. The exhibition brings together a total of 40 drawn works (illustrations, single-page comics) created by a wide selection of the most representative Italian artists and cartoonists as a tribute to the Canadian director and his films, which will be divided between the two rooms. The exhibition is an original artistic production, co-produced by COMICON and Marco Lucchetti Art Gallery of Lugano.
