The Czech Republic will not enforce COVID vaccinations

The new government wants to use PCR tests on a larger scale. This information comes from the strategy to combat the epidemic, presented on Wednesday by the leaders of five parties of the coalition government, Petr Fiali. The future prime minister assessed that the current wave of the pandemic could not be stopped. A record number of new coronavirus infections have been detected in the country.

The current data of the Ministry of Health indicate 25,864 new infections detected in the last 24 hours. This is the highest daily balance since March 2020.

There are currently 5,652 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, and 799 of them are in critical condition in intensive care units.

There have been 48 COVID-19-related deaths in the last day, but this number will still be updated. 32,408 people have died in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the pandemic.

New government: School closings are ruled out

According to Fiala, who is to be appointed prime minister on Friday by President Milosz Zeman, the current wave of the pandemic cannot be stopped, but its effects can only be limited by protecting the health care system from collapse.

Politicians of the emerging government assume that the powers of sanitary and epidemiological stations in individual regions of the country should suffice to manage the pandemic. They can, for example, make decisions limiting the limits of participants in mass events, they also have the right to enforce applicable regulations.

The strategy of the center-right government, presented to journalists, rules out school closings and universal compulsory immunization. They will only be possible for individual professional groups upon their request. Politicians asked the Czechs to receive a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

Vlastimil Valek, named as the future health minister in the Fiali cabinet, said compulsory vaccination is not the solution, but only divides society. He advocated a return to recognizing a negative PCR test result as a “covid certificate”. He wants to expand the base for their performance and the number of such tests themselves.
