Carlo Favini was born in Redondesco in the province of Mantua. He worked as a bank manager and for more than twenty years he has been cultivating the hobby of wood inlay in a highly professional manner. In collaboration with the diocesan museum of Ischia Ponte he sets up an exhibition of many sacred works of high artistic value. Favini and his works have always been characterized by freedom of spirit associated with a surprising aesthetic sense. You understand this when you have the opportunity to compare an inlay with the painting reproduced in it: you can then see how Favini never limits himself to “copy” the painting that inspired him, both because he does not hesitate to sacrifice details of that painting which he considers irrelevant, both because he knows – as someone translates from one language to another – that “translating” the polychromy of a painting into the resources offered by the woods will always produce a different effect.
