The organizers of the La Roche-sur-Yon International Film Festival have lifted the veil on six films which will be screened during the 14e edition, from October 16 to 21, 2023.
The Vendée event will announce its entire program during a presentation session at Cyel, Wednesday September 27, 2023.
Among the six films revealed, we find two productions selected in official competition at the last Venice Film Festivalone of the largest film festivals in the world.
First of all, The beastfrom the French director Bertrand Bonello.
In a near future where artificial intelligence reigns, human emotions have become a threat.
To get rid of it, Gabrielle (Léa Seydoux) must purify her DNA by diving back into her past lives.
There she finds Louis (George Mackay), her great love.
But a fear invades him, the presentiment that a catastrophe is brewing.
The explosive new work by Bertrand Bonello, guest of the Festival in 2011 and 2016, made its world premiere during the Venice Festival and will be on display at the FIF in La Roche-sur-Yon.
Golden Lion in Venice
Yonnais spectators will also have the chance to discover the film by Yórgos Lánthimos, Poor creatures (Poor things) just won the Golden Lion during the Italian festival.
Director Yórgos Lánthimos and producer Emma Stone present the incredible tale of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) and her extraordinary evolution.
Bella is a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under his protection, she is eager to learn.
Eager to discover the world she knows nothing about, she runs away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a clever and debauched lawyer, and embarks on a dizzying odyssey across continents.
Pleasure menus – Les Troisgros, a culinary show
Another French film will be showing at the La Roche-sur-Yon Film Festival: Pleasure menus – Les troisgrosby Frederick Wiseman.
Frederick Wiseman, guest of the Festival in 2017, this time takes us behind the scenes of Maison Troisgros, a family restaurant for four generations, three stars in the Michelin Guide.
The American director follows and directs each stage of this culinary spectacle: from the choice of food on the market to the table service, nothing is left to chance.
A thrilling immersion that thrills all the senses and brings back the pleasure of the table, the sense of sharing.
Documentary and experimental cinema
The three other films announced are: the documentary Joan Baez I am a noiseby Karen O’Connor, Miri Navasky and Maeve O’Boyle (United States), which paints a unique portrait of the folk music legend and civil rights activist; El Eco, by Tatiana Huezo (Germany/Mexico), an immersion in a community in Mexico; And The Human Trough 3by Eduardo Williams (Argentina/Portugal/Netherlands/Taiwan/Brazil/Hong Kong/Sri Lanka/Peru), a journey into experimental cinema, around the world.
