The first game on Unreal Engine 5 is … the third chapter of Fortnite •

Darkest under the lantern.

When players with flushed faces wait for the first game created for Unreal Engine 5, it turned out that the new engine is already used in the well-known production – Fortnite.

Epic Games – the makers of both Fortnite and Unreal Engine – informedthat last Sunday, with the introduction of the online shooter to the third chapter of the game, Fortnite changed the engine from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, thus becoming the first title available to everyone running on the new tool.

Unreal Engine 5 allowed developers to introduce new mechanics related to physical calculations – in chapter 3, players can cut trees, while falling logs can destroy objects standing in the way.

Later in the 1st season, tornadoes will also come to Fortnite, just like in Battlefield 2042, sucking everything around, including players. This is probably also due to the new engine.

It is worth noting that the reason why nobody expected Fortnite’s transition to UE5 is very simple – Chapter 3 does not offer significantly better graphics, e.g. more details or better lighting. So we have to wait for the more impressive engine show in the game.

Many upcoming productions are already being made on Unreal Engine 5, including Stalker 2 or Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga. Players can also check out the tool’s capabilities thanks to the Matrix Awakens technology demo.
