The Garda museum is closed, visits to the cathedral

Mid-August between the sacred and the profane, in the city, with something to see, however, that will not displease foreigners and may be an opportunity for residents to get to know Ivrea better. Today, Monday 15, obviously begins with the celebration of the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of the diocese and owner of the cathedral church where, at 11, the parish mass will be held, at 5.45 pm, the second solemn vespers and , at 6 pm, the pontifical mass presided over by the bishop, Edoardo Aldo Cerrato, during which Maria Beatrice Vallero and Elisa Moro will join the Ordo Virginum of Ivrea, handing their vote into the hands of the bishop. Among other things, a plenary indulgence will be granted to the faithful who will piously visit the cathedral and recite the Our Father and the Creed.

For those who are not moved by faith, but by culture, the cathedral, inserted in the circuit of the Romanesque churches of the morainic amphitheater of Ivrea, can be an interesting place for a visit in which to discover its more than millennial history, testified by the preserved parts of the its Romanesque structures and the series of subsequent interventions that changed its physiognomy, gradually adapting it to the emerging aesthetic tastes of Baroque and Neoclassicism. To remember: the visit to the crypt and the sarcophagus of the commissioner Caio Atecio Valerio is not allowed during religious celebrations. Always open to the public, however, is the central Ottinetti square where Ikaria and Hermanos are exhibited, two monumental bronze works by the famous Franco-Polish artist Igor Mitoraj, which, until November 17, will place Ivrea on the same level as the great capitals of the world. In a festive Ottinetti square, thanks also to the particular graphic layout desired by the councilor for Culture Costanza Casali for Ivrea, the Italian capital of the book 2022, the two sculptures will certainly be worth a stop, even if only for a selfie (to which even the most staid).

Unfortunately, the Garda Museum is closed, but ready to be visited again, with its exhibition Twelve books for twelve months, as early as Friday 19.

The Ivreaestate mid-August will also offer an evening proposal, as part of the highly successful Ivreaestate program, the review curated by the Rosse Torri association, chaired by Simonetta Valenti. At 9.30 pm, in fact, in the courtyard of the Garda Museum, in piazza Ottinetti, the film Cyrano, by Joe Wright, with Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett and Kelvin Harrison jr will be screened. Taken from the classic by Edmond Rostand, this particular version of Cyrano was shot in a timeless Sicily and constitutes an effective cinematic reinterpretation of the history of one of the most famous and overwhelming love triangles of all time. Ticket: full price, 6 euros; reduced, 5 euros. –
