In the last day, a record number of 76,414 new cases of COVID-19 infection was recorded. According to Spahn, there are currently 4,000 COVID-19 patients requiring intensive care in German hospitals. The German Lurtwaffe will help in transporting the sick
In some regions there is a lack of places in intensive care units, so patients have to be transported to other parts of Germany. The German air force was engaged to help, which was adapted to rescue missions, informs the daily “Tagesspiegel”.
Specially equipped Airbus A310 MedEvac planes have two intensive care devices and six treatment places on board. The first one landed on Friday afternoon at the Bavarian airport in Memmingen. From there, the patients were taken to Muenster-Osnabrueck in North Rhine-Westphalia, the daily reports.
The Airbus A310 MT is a slightly revised version of the A310-300 passenger aircraft that has been adapted for military transport. The plane is nearly 47 meters long and has a span of 44 meters. It reaches a maximum speed of 885 km / h.
Germany will use patient selection?
Doctors more and more often warn that they may soon be forced to use trio, that is, selecting patients for whom help is provided. The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Accident Medicine (DIVI) issued updated recommendations on Friday. They show that when making such a selection, a doctor cannot take into account whether the patient is vaccinated against COVID-19. All patients must be treated equally, including those waiting for surgery, and another delay in surgery would endanger their lives. The decisive criterion in the selection must remain the chance of successful therapy – it follows from the recommendations quoted by the media.
