– If it turns out that inflation has not slowed down sufficiently in some time, then of course we are ready to extend the anti-inflationary packages. The Polish government is here to try to fight inflation effectively, of course in those areas for which the government is responsible, said Müller.
– I have decided to lower the VAT rate on fuels from 23 percent. to 8 percent, which will translate into a reduction in the price of a liter of gasoline and diesel at the station from 60 to 70 groszy. The price should drop to about PLN 5 – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in an interview for Interia on Friday.

On Friday, the CSO released the latest data on December inflation. Prices increased by 8.6%, even exceeding the bold forecasts of analysts. Compared to the previous month, prices increased by 0.9%.
What was the most expensive
According to the latest data, the overall index is driving fuel price growth the most. The Central Statistical Office reports that inflation in the category of fuel for private means of transport increased by as much as 32.9 percent year-on-year. Compared to last month, prices have jumped by 0.2 percent, which means that even a special government package of excise tax cuts did not stop the increases completely.
Food is also significantly more expensive. We are talking here about an increase of 8.6 percent. The price of food has increased significantly compared to last month, as prices have gone up by 2.1%. Throughout 2021, the average annual inflation reached 5.1%.
