“One of the most extraordinary collections of supercars that has belonged to a single owner,” said Michael Squire, research director at RM Sotheby’s, is going up for auction. And this “further strengthens our global reputation for introducing refined collections to the market”. A real big hit, on November 5th we will see the largest Gran Turismo Collection on sale.
It is a unique collection which represents well 50 years of automotive history. It all began 25 years ago, with the purchase of the first model, a Ferrari F40, which already indicates the theme of performance, which unites the entire selection of cars. The collector who today decided to deliver the entire lot has always looked for the best specimens available at the time of purchase, often withholding the cars ordered new from the factory. The F40 was a one-off at the time of purchase.
The Gran Turismo Collection it is one of the best selections of cars to arrive in recent times, each model unleashes incredibly brilliant performance. All are made with materials that require expert maintenance, and the cars in this collection have been treated with extraordinary care and attention, to be the envy of any other collector.
The exceptional supercars
We find a series of Ferrari hypercars, the 288 GTO, the F40, the F50, the Enzo and finally the LaFerrari; they are probably the most sought after quintet in the auto sector by enthusiasts. These are some of the greatest cars of their era, all in Rosso Corsa color. The collection also features a trio of Ferrari Barchetta, some of Maranello’s most coveted cars over the past two decades and all presented in eye-catching yellow.
Then there are some Bugatti, a brand that boasts an extraordinary history. We find the EB110, one of the design masterpieces of the House, but also the Super Sport, a model that has truly reached the highest technical size and the Chiron Super Sport 300+. One appears in the Gran Turismo Collection at auction Lamborghini Miura, another true design icon, a point of reference that has changed the world. Although the Miura possesses timeless beauty, the Countach LP5000 S is the archetypal supercar of the 1980s, it is the poster car par excellence.
There are cars that are part of the supercar landscape of Jaguar, the XJR-15 and the XJ220 S, road representations of extraordinary rarity. It would be hard for any collector to find supercars more exclusive than these two.
The Group B rally icons are phenomenal cars, which the manufacturers have developed and capable of almost defying physics, thermodynamics and human attitude. These were cars with an acceleration that was close to the numbers of Formula 1.
In this auction collection there are also models that have taken part in some historic rallies, such as the Lancia 037 from the 1980s. L’Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 Group B from 1985 is another of the exceptional creatures, in its most brutal form and with enormous power. The collection also includes one Lancia Delta S4 Group B from 1986, one of the most legendary in motorsport, which won the Monte Carlo Rally. The selection of extraordinary cars from the Gran Turismo Collection will never again be offered together at auction, and it is a truly unique and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
