The Lost City in 4K UHD and blu-ray, the review

The review of The Lost City in 4K UHD and blu-ray: the product distributed by Plaion impresses with an explosive video on the chromatic level, an immersive audio (but above all in English) and a good package of extras.

The Lost City: Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in one scene

A hilarious and electrifying adventure-comedy, a legendary treasure to be discovered in exotic settings and two sympathetic and well-matched actors like Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock: the right ingredients for a fresh, summery and carefree vision that can now also be enjoyed in homevideo. And as we will see in the review of The Lost City in 4K UHD and blu-raythe Paramount product distributed by Plaion is excellent for enhancing the spectacularity of the film, enriched among other things by tasty intrusions such as those of Brad Pitt and Daniel Radcliffe.

Super 4K video with impressive chroma and granite detail

Lost Cover

Impeccable the most prestigious edition of The Lost City that we were able to admire thanks to Plaion, the two-disc one with the film in 4K UHD and blu-ray. If the blu-ray video is excellent for the potential of the HD format, 4K undeniably manages to have an extra gear, both in terms of detail and color rendering. Starting from the latter aspect, the colors have a decidedly superior stability, precision and brilliance, enhanced by the film’s settings, with a rich and varied palette and a truly impressive range. The whites are clear and bright, the black solid, the green is spectacular in the reproduction of the lush jungle and rich in vegetation, the blue offers various shades between sky and ocean, always very intense.

The Lost City 9

Not to mention the flashy purple sequined dress worn by Sandra Bullock that shines in all light conditions. But apart from the sensation of a greater depth of field, there is also a qualitative leap in detail, even if with less impact than chroma: the complexions are porous and well defined, clothes, settings and scenographies are rich in details, the panoramas of tropical islands and sandy beaches are granite and flawless.

The Lost City, the review: in search of lost irony

Good Italian audio, but English Dolby Atmos is pure energy

On the audio front there is the regret of finding an Italian track in simple Dolby Digital 5.1. An excellent track for the potential of coding, capable of capturing attention and involving in the events of the protagonists, but inevitably very far from the English Dolby Atmos. With all the rather lively scenes that there are, when explosions, bullets and roaring vehicles begin to be heard, the difference is felt and is clearly perceptible, both in terms of dynamics, power and sound richness, being able to count the Atmos even on a verticality that on some occasions makes the difference.

The Lost City 8

Even if compared to the spectacular original it is necessarily subdued, the Italian track still offers an imposing musical presence, a good action for space and energy, a satisfying contribution of the bass and an incisive rear axle. Above all, the jungle atmosphere is very suggestive, but it is in the English Dolby Atmos that a sense of total envelopment is really created, full of even subtle or fleeting noises.

The extras: almost an hour of material including featurettes, deleted scenes and bloopers

The Lost City 6

The extras department was also very good, with almost an hour of contributions. We start with_ Dynamic Duo_ (5 ‘), which analyzes the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum and the relationship of their characters, then to follow Location Profile (7 ‘) with a look at the exotic places in the Dominican Republic where part of the film was shot. Continue with Jungle Rescue (6 ‘and a half), a focus on the realization of the spectacular escape scene and the effects used.

We find then The Jumpsuit (4 ‘) on the purple costume with shimmering sequins worn by Sandra Bullock, then Charcuterie (3 ‘and a half) on the scene with the mountain of flying foods, e The Villains of the Lost City (5 ‘and a half) which obviously analyzes the villains of the film. Following Building The Lost City (7 ‘and a half) with cast and crew talking about how the sets were built and the challenges represented by shooting, location and scenography. To close eight deleted scenes (total of 9 minutes) ei Bloopers (5 ‘and a half) with a collection of wrong lines and funny moments during the shoot.

Conclusions

At the end of the review of The Lost City in 4K UHD and blu-ray, we can only reiterate the extreme quality of a product that allows you to appreciate the spectacular, exotic places and scenery of the film thanks to a film that is incisive in detail and crackling in the chroma . The audio is also excellent, but the regret of the Italian track is a Dolby Digital 5.1 obviously inferior to the resounding English Dolby Atmos. Good package of extras with almost an hour of material.

Because we like it

  • The exuberance of a chroma that enhances the settings of the film.
  • The incisiveness and precision of detail.
  • An engaging audio in Italian and overwhelming in the English track.
  • The good package of extras.

What’s wrong

  • Too bad that the Italian audio stops at Dolby Digital 5.1, obviously distant from the English Dolby Atmos.
