On July 24, Jennifer Lopez turns 52. And it still delights with beauty, condition and energy. On the occasion of the birthday, we recall breakthrough moments in the star’s career.
Jennifer made her screen debut in 1986, at the age of 17, in the drama “My Little Girl,” opposite Mary Stuart Masterson. At the same time, she developed her dancing skills by performing in nightclubs, musicals and rap music videos. In 1993, she joined the Janet Jackson dance team and appeared in two of her videos: “That’s the Way Love Goes” and “If”. She was even supposed to go on a world tour with Janet, but decided to put it all on one card and focus on building her own name.
First big role: “Selena”, 1997
It paid off because in 1997 she played her first major role, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. She played the role of a tragically deceased Mexican singer and designer Selena.
Grammy and Versace Dress, 2000
Although Jennifer did not win any prize, that evening it was everyone’s eyes that were on her. This is due to the extremely sexy and bold Versace dress with tropical prints. It is apparently thanks to her that the Google Image Search option appeared, i.e. image search, because everyone wanted to see this famous, more revealing than covering, creation designed by Donatella. 20 years later, Jennifer presented her again on the Milan catwalk during spring-summer 2020 fashion week.
The girl from the Bronx, that is Jenny from the block
In 2003, one of Lopez’s most famous (and most often cited) songs was released – “Jenny from the Block”, in which she assured that despite her success and popularity, she was still a modest girl from the Bronx, where she was born and raised. In the music video for the song, she appeared with her then-boyfriend Ben Affleck. They were one of the most popular couples, the media called them Bennifer, and they co-starred in the comedy “Gigl”, which turned out to be a flop. Just like the relationship itself, although it was supposed to end in wedding, broke up in 2004. But it looks like this that Ben and Jen are back together, as we wrote about recently.
Juror of “American Idol”
In 2011, Lopez joined the jury of American Idol. She participated in the show for five seasons (with a hiatus in season 12) until Fox ended its broadcast in 2016.
Return to the screens: “Lovely”, 2019
Lopez has no ambitions to become the second Meryl Streep. And very good, because in carefree romantic comedies he finds himself really great. But as it turns out, she also has a talent for drama, which she proved in the film “Beauties”. It is a suspenseful story of New York go-go dancers who lose all their savings in the 2008 financial crash and decide to take revenge on the Wall Street bankers.
A duo with Shakira in the Super Bowl final
Lopez and Shakira’s performance in the finals of the American football championship has gone down in history. At the end, the artists, both of Latin origin, sang Jennifer’s song “Let’s Get Loud” and “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” from Shakira’s repertoire.
