The new Suzuki S-Cross – evolution not revolution. We know the prices in Poland

Suzuki S-Cross of the third generation. Contrary to appearances, this is not a Toyota with a different badge and details. It is also not just another subtle facelift, but a fairly seriously modernized structure. In the nomenclature, Suzuki is the successor of the model that has been known for many years. The predecessor hit the market in 2013.

The new S-Cross is therefore still based on the Suzuki Global C platform, which means that the car retains the key dimensions of its predecessor. So it is still 4.3 meters long and 1.78 meters wide. It is not difficult to guess that the wheelbase also remained unchanged – 2.6 m.

The body from the length of 4.3 m is enough to create a spacious cabin with a large luggage compartment (430 l capacity). Suzuki assures that the interior is full of high-quality materials and equipment. The S-Cross can therefore be equipped with: a panoramic roof, natural leather upholstery (the list of options also includes synthetic leather with additional stitching), automatic transmission (six-speed), multimedia set with a large screen (7 or 9 inch matrix depending on the version) , wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a set of 360-degree cameras. The equipment also includes such practical accessories as the rear seat with adjustable backrest tilt, seat heating or adaptive cruise control.

The new Suzuki S-Cross – not only 4×4

I am glad that Suzuki resisted the fashion and retained the ALLGRIP four-wheel drive (only the cheapest version is single-axle drive). So you can still use the drive with 4 operating modes (changes are made via the knob on the console) depending on the road conditions. You can choose between modes with meaningful names: automatic, sports, snow and lock (drive lock). For the driver, this also means that ALLGRIP adjusts the torque for the rear wheels, also with the help of the ESP system.

Initially, only one engine variant will be available in showrooms. This is called a soft SHVS hybrid with a 1.4 Boosterjet gasoline engine (K14D family) and a 48 V electrical system. Therefore, 129 HP of power and 235 Nm of torque can be used. That’s it for the beginning, because already in 2022 the new Suzuki S-Cross with HEV hybrid drive will appear, which, contrary to appearances, has nothing to do with Toyota designs. According to the first information, the drive has been adapted to drive in zero-emission mode (only on the energy stored in the battery) for several km.

The new Suzuki S-Cross – a smartphone-controlled car

Another drive source is not everything that will appear next year. Suzuki will then make its debut with a new online services platform. Drivers will have access to the application to remotely control the car and check information about the location and technical condition of the car. Data on the key parameters of the car will also be available on the screen of the on-board multimedia system. Therefore, we will learn about the fuel consumption along with the estimated range, warnings from the diagnostic system or the operating status of the SHVS hybrid drive.

From the moment of the car’s debut, a not too long list of driver assistance systems is available. The standard includes, among others DSBS (emergency braking with a camera and laser sensor for observation of the surroundings), LDW (lane crossing warning), LDP (active lane assistant), traffic sign recognition, hill start assist or emergency braking warning. In more expensive versions of the equipment, BSM (blind spot monitoring), a set of 360-degree cameras and RCTA (warning of the so-called cross traffic at the rear of the car) were added.

About Eric Wilson

The variety offered by video games never ceases to amaze him. He loves OutRun's drifting as well as the contemplative walks of Dear Esther. Immersing himself in other worlds is an incomparable feeling for him: he understood it by playing for the first time in Shenmue.
